@thewannabecritic7490 Do federated web. Don't fight archivers as artist discovery on social media is pure RNG. Abolish copyright law. Don't go into lawsuits in a common law system without good lawyers. Don't vote for politicians that want to pass laws that will make it more difficult to for an average person to grow a website and for people to connect outside of social media. Don't use websites that don't encrypt your data E2E for posting art privately.
Can't do that? Encourage people that can. The reason these huge datasets could get collected was because you subscribed the EULA that lets companies do whatever they want with your data.
No one ever challenged that, and no one wanted to vote with their wallets. Small websites tend to have a small or even nonexistent lawyer departments and have less incentive to hoard data.
Yes, you might have to start paying 20 dollars to use a service in a world where making money from ads would come with legal headache. But what do you value more? $20 and having Twitter arguments over meaningless policies, or policies that protect your creative work and privacy?
And bro, I've been hearing these types of arguments for years from artists like that and no matter how you try to explain it, most of them just value their work so much they can't let go. Bro... You legally, in current system, is not the owner of whatever you post online, or whatever your company uses in the product. Going after an AI-bro in Zimbabwe won't fix the issue. But it's all people talk about because it's simpler, it's easier.
If you say that you care, might as well start thinking about fixing the issues instead of releasing ragebait about poor African children using ChatGPT to steal your art. It's simply disengenious and no one ever calls it out because it's nothing but petty arguing and cancel culture.
It's always hoorah-hoorah-hoorah-go-team-I-can't-draw-but-I-spent-20-years-doing-it-so-now-I-am-blinded-by-ChatGPT-skill-issuing-me-and-people-not-paying-me-for-commissions-in-a-hyper-competitive-market-that-keeps-getting-more-and-more-competitive-every-decade. Like bro. I know plenty of artists that make bank. "You can't use ChatGPT in art" is just another spin on "artists that use 3d blockouts before sketching are frauds."
How about, you pick up the tool and learn to use where it can give you an edge. Because AI-bro won't take your job, an artist that knows when to use AI will.
At some point 10 years ago there was this video of three senior Blizzard artists saying: "Can you imagine the future when this AlphaGo and dream stuff get's better? We would have BCI-s and you could think of a thing you want to paint and it would paint it exactly how you envision it. Then we could exercise our artistry without having to use these sausages to scribble. And experimenting would become so much faster and in-depth that you could unlock new genres and artstyles you've been shying away from."
That's the future I want, not the future where we censor internet more because we asked Google and Facebook to be the art theft police.
Also poisoning art won't really help long term as the next model with a slightly different architecture won't pick up on those differences. It's essentially snake oil and will work for like, a year.
