How about whether or not an entire industry driven by shareholders and political pressures domestic and international, and with all that momentum and so much money at stake can show restraint. Like even if they actually honestly wanted to?
No. They cannot. Its pretty clear that regardless of if rogue Ai or superintelligence is even on the horizon, they have already lost the ability to control it. That is not a technology issue, its an industry and policy issue.
