PS: also on the example of the doctor... LLms currently more likely have no understanding of what a particular medicine is- what they 'know' is the thousands of similar cases it scrapped and how often those parameters lead to the doctor writing X. But thats infering not from 'thinking like a doctor' or understanding anything about medicine or the human body- but understanding medical documents and replicating a pattern.
Theyre as smart as big data... a interesting example i never forget is how some research in the UK found out that demanding bikers to use helmets led to more biking acidents- the data doesnt explain anything, but investigating further asking bikers and watching behaviour turns out people getting all geared up for biking led to them being more confident and acting riskier...
I think thats an example of the kinds of ways Llms are 'smarter' then us- an Llm that trained on that data could possibly answer that helmets would lead to more accidents, and heck a human may even think it was wrong, delirating... Actual good information on volume have tremenduous insight but we as a species are terrible to process so much data
