Nightshade slowly poisons any AI model that eats it. One piece only poisons it a little bit, so it takes a collective effort of lots of people putting out poisoned work for the AI to suffer.
And no, if you don't put your art somewhere an AI can get to it, it's not worth Nightshading. AI can only scrape works that are publicly shown.
