And imo this lack of regulation hurts the AI companies as well because it's totally poisoning the well. Like imagine trying to do it ethically in this day and age. You're still getting most of the bad PR associated with other AI companies because they try to lie that they're being ethical but whatever you're doing is significantly more limited than what your competition is due to you asking for permissions and making deals instead of just stealing everything. You're gaining very little support from people who already hate AI due to how it's abused and AI enthusiasts will also skip due to your product being inferior. There's simply no reason to do things the right way before the the regulations are in place and enforced to the point that average consumer can have some faith in that field
