@CookieCross Your argument demonstrates a fundamental lack in knowledge about how learning algorithms work, and how society in general works. If somebody downloads art, it does absolutely nothing harmful to the artist. If someone downloads it, posts it on their profile, and says "hey guys look at this art I made", that's a big problem. Nobody is claiming that AI companies own the art, they are just using publicly available art that was posted on a platform with a download image button BUILT IN. And besides, AI technically doesn't even need to download art to work, it just needs to see art, which means if they used something like the Twitter API to look at art server-side without downloading it, which a lot of companies do anyways, then there is no theft as it's no different than scrolling on your homepage and just seeing it there plain as day. If it was illegal theft, many people would be in jail already, I'm sure the government knows about the issue and I'm sure they don't care. Again, that's my stance on the issue. But as I stated before it's super easy to rebuke what I said because it's an opinion. Same as your argument. The real issue at hand is how AI is stealing jobs. I would never, ever support ai "art" in any way, but the reason no progress is being made in getting it to stop is a lack of facts. The stealing art thing is an opinion and will cause divide no matter what, it stealing jobs is a plain undeniable fact.
