I think the reason is clear. Capitalism, and the apathy and selfishness it cultivates in humans.
For all that AI fans talk about alignment of AI with humans values, they are completely and utterly ignorant of the ways in which corporations are unaligned with human values, and how they dont want people, but mindless consumers.
