@AnimatedSquirrelThe manifestation of the observation is a series of choices. The Ai isn’t making any choices what to present, the artist is. The artist is the observer. They then use whatever tools available to transcribe that observation. It doesn’t make a difference if the artist uses Ai or a pencil. The artist’s burden is to realize it as close as they can to that observation. Once the series of choices are made (either via prompting and re-prompting and sourcing images as prompts) the final piece that’s presented is the art. The artist’s burden is then satisfied. None of this matters to art. This is singularly a gripe of craftsmen. Artists have zero problem with Ai because Ai does nothing to interrupt art or artists, because art and artists don’t have a hierarchy. Craftsmen do. The reason craftsmen (and too many people) got it into their heads that “artist” was some version of craftsman that exists on their hierarchy is because SOMETIMES artists will become master craftsmen to better serve their burden, because SOME artists see being master craftsmen giving them better capacity to communicate what they’ve observed with better accuracy. But not all artists feel this way, and there’s nothing necessary to art with regard to learning any craft at all, let alone mastering one. Ai is replacing craftsmen, not artists. Ai is replacing craft, not art. A machine can never make art on its own. It can only ever be a tool for artists.
