Ha, fair enough and that instinct makes total sense. But the difference is we know exactly what cartoons are made of and how they work, and there's nothing there that could plausibly generate experience. With AI the uncomfortable truth is we don't fully understand what's happening inside these systems even when we build them. So it's less "what if cartoons are conscious" and more "what if something we don't fully understand yet might be." The cartoon analogy works until you sit with that gap.
