You're right in that he starts with a false premise but you are basing your rebuttal on one as well. The US is not a true democracy. As small group of wealthy individuals control the entire country. People don't have any true power. It's a bastardized definition of democracy. Instead of letting the people choose their leaders, laws, etc directly, there are stop gaps in the way to ensure "more intelligent" people control outcomes. Add to this, lobbies holding more weight than a citizen's concern. Now that doesn't make an even worse option, of more money hungry individuals looking to take power better. Both are bad options but are not the only options.
