This is what I have been wondering as well, let us asume in a dream-world that every company manages to automate every single high paying position to save costs. Now cars are made entirely automated, they drive entirely automated, trains drive entirely automated, ships sail entirely automated, plants work entirely automated and so on. Who on earth will then still even be able to pay for those cars, buy tickets for the trains or purchase goods being transported through trains and trucks if everyone has been made redudant? Entire companies will just be automating themselves out of existence because nobody will be left to continue to buy their products at a steady pace since they all been fired.
