I don't give them the opportunity. All assessment is done in class. No excuses then. If you want to know if they are using AI to do their work: once you receive it, ask them questions about it. When they can't answer, point out that they "wrote" it and then report them for plagiarism. Forewarn them that you'll be doing this, it scares the crap out of them. Shit parent complains: provide evidence of AI use. Document everything (you should be anyway).
