I've been writing steadily for around 17 years now (largely as a hobby - I'm not yet published professionally, though I'm working toward that). I don't know if this will help you, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that, ultimately, you should create because you want to express something important to *you*. Success is wonderful, but with any kind of art, it's also very fickle, with a million different factors that can make or break it, including just plain old luck. In writing, bad stories sometimes take off and become really popular. Good, well-written stories sometimes go completely unnoticed. Even stories that are considered absolutely classics do not have universal approval. Art, of any kind, is always going to have a subjective element - people can look at the same story, and one will go, "This is absolutely awesome!" Another person might look at it and go, "This is the worst thing I've ever read." The writing hasn't changed. The same words are on the page. But if the person who goes, "This is awful," happens to be a publisher, or perhaps they are just really vocal, the story might not succeed. That's why I've learned to not focus on whether or not what I'm writing will be successful, but to write because...well, I have a million ideas I want to put on the page and bring to life, even if just for myself. It is frightening to think about what might happen if AI becomes more advanced when it comes to generating stories, and my heart goes out to visual artists right now who are wrestling with this, and to you too, since you seem so discouraged. But, no matter what may happen with AI, if you have an idea that you really want to create, I hope you will! Success may come (and I do wish you the very best) but if I could say anything, it's create for *yourself* because it's something you want to share with the world, something you are passionate about, something you want to make. That, whether your creation succeeds or not, will make your life richer, and the world richer too, even if not everyone recognizes it.
