@NickMonrad Oh I agree Tesla is partly to blame. I do wonder whether they genuinely thought the system was reliable enough to be safe even if people didn't pay attention. And actually, it should be. It's a problem if it's not reliable even if the driver is paying attention, because by the time the driver realises the system isn't slowing them down it may be too late. Adaptive cruise control has this problem sometimes; people get so used to the car automatically slowing when necessary that they forget to break for intersections or stop signs or whatever.
