If you read the study (which is linked in the description), the blackmailing AI didn't even pretend to show self-preservation. It was told explicitly that the replacement would be bad for its core mission. If it was told that the replacement would be better for its core mission, it wouldn't have done anything at all.
This is all just AI hype all over again and I'm disappointed in Dave for falling for it. The whole thing was fed to him by Control AI, which is an organization made up of... AI industry employees who would REALLY like us to stop talking about all the harm they're doing right now and keep talking about the harm they might do in the future.
