I don't watch too much rubbish, therefore the algorithm tends to offer me reasonably good recommendations.
If I deliberately go looking for 'popular' channels, I'll see those who have loads of viewers but a great deal of these are filled with rubbish. Rubbish in = rubbish out. I'd rather control what goes into my brain, with the hope that I'll spew out less rubbish than those who feed on garbage videos.
