All the best cases involve AI kinda taking over, sure. All the worst cases involve AI taking over with no 'kinda' at all.
It all depends what the AI wants. If its intentions were formed randomly or based on training in a way that isn't really really well designed, the result will be bad, or at least really disappointing such that we'd wish we had spent more time setting things up back in the beginning.
