The Skynet scenario is a misuse of AI. Putting AI in charge of national defense would be a terrible misuse of technology. The only thing about the Skynet/Terminator story I disagree with is that it became self-aware, meaning conscious, and that's what led to it firing nuclear missiles.
The Dune scenario, as I'll call it here, seems more likely. People like the ones featured in this video rose to political power and because of their ineptitude and laziness they were easily overthrown by a small group of intelligent hacker types. That small group then went full transhumanist and had their brains removed from their bodies so they could extend their lifespan. The AI in that story then overthrows those brain canisters and enslaves humanity for millennia, until a holy war to stamp out all AI was fought and won.
Yeah, I've read too much science fiction. It's like I'm living in one of those dystopian stories when I see people already claiming AI is conscious.
