I don't buy the 'it's stealing" arguement either. AI learns much as Humans do, by taking in stuff and producing a non-identical output. The speed and scale arguement also doesn't hold water because that could change one day. If I one day become a cyborg and can digest art and writing at super speed, does my learning it stop being ethical even though I'm a person?
And while I can see the arguement that cognitive offloading can adversely effect people, not everyone has the same talents. Not everyone has the knack to become a good artist or writer, same as not everyone has the knack to become a great composer or musician.
AI lowers the barrier of entry to people who have ideas but just can't manage to get those ideas into a book, song, comic, video, etc, at least on their own. This is a normal part of creative teams. Writers who aren't good at illustrating get others to do it for them. Movies are huge affairs where everyone works on some element they are good at to bring someone else's creative vision to life. But not everyone has the money or social network to do that, at least not early on.
