As an artist myself (mind you, not a very good one), ethically sourced AI is perfectly fine. If it is truly ethical, then that means the data it's trained on was willingly given. However, that's not the case with most, if not all, art generative AI. Art generative AI scours the internet to find artworks and "studies" them to transfer art pieces into a large database of "inspiration." Then it uses that "inspiration" to generate what's commonly referred to as "AI slop."
AI doesn't actually take inspiration, as we define it, from artworks. AI slop isn't inspired. How it forms is by piecing together pieces from thousands of artworks to form an image of something our eyes will recognize. It steals pieces of artwork to form an image to somewhat fit someone's typed prompt. More often than not, the artwork used as "inspiration" is copyrighted and NOT free-use.
