This video isn't misleading, it's a one minute video that doesn't thoroughly debunk this notion. It's just *one* very basic example showing how context matters when telling someone's emotions. There are far more problems with detecting emotions through facial expressions, Emotional Expressions Reconsidered: Challenges to Inferring Emotion From Human Facial Movements is a good systematic review. Telling someone's sentiment based on their face is sometimes possible but emotions are unable to be detected by face alone. The reason assuming you can discern emotions based on facial expression is a problem is because it was/is used to dehumanize/harm racialized minorities, has continued to cause misunderstandings about autistic and schizophrenic people and this AI recognition is going to be used for profiling by police so discrediting it ASAP is a good thing (and it's also just false).
