They are profitable. For corps.
They are cheaper to use than hiring humans.
An entire team of writers or artists is more expensive than an AI model and a single guy to oversee it.
This is actually why my local newspaper has sold its office building and fired 90% of employees.
Anyone who wasn't the administrative staff, or the random middle manager assigned to overlook the AI, was fired. Now 100% of their articles are ai. Anything they can get away with not using a real photo is ai. And it's disgusting.
