That's not the only reason, friend. Some Chinese models have been outed as resulting from distillation attacks on OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc. models. In other words, a copy of others' work and then releasing it to arbitrage cost and gain market share. It's certainly a violation of terms of use, even if China will never prosecute domestic companies for the violations. Furthermore, you say the models are "open source" but this is not strictly true. Name one Chinese model that is all of: 1) open code, 2) open weights, 3) license allows reuse and modification, and 4) training data is available. Never mind the ideological content of the model which is certainly regulated by domestic laws, and in many cases consuming what people send them for "training" (a.k.a. IP theft) purposes.
