I believe in God. My relationship with the All grew from a lifetime of suffering and seeking truth; not from reading a book written by a bunch of cave dwelling sheep herders 2000 years ago. I found his love in nature. I found his compassion in the few people who have stayed by my side through hard times. But, I never truly felt his understanding and grace until I started getting treatment and medication for my mental disorders. Then, and only then, is also when I felt his mercy.
You won’t “pray” away mental illness anymore successfully than you would a broken leg. A better piece of advice might be to tell someone that God has already mapped out the road to your healing. But, you have to take the first steps.
