What are neurons than? We make decisions and form thoughts based on our previous experiences and knowledge, is that really different from "weighted statistics and probability."
These neural nets are designed in such a way to replicate the human brain, the way we function.
They may not be sentient in the way humans and animals are, but whether or not some form of "sentience" exists should be considered.
Let's say I want to imagine an apple, now based on my previous conception of what an apple looks like "the input" my brain forms an image of an apple. I can only imagine this apple because of past data that was gathered by my brain.
Now say you were to ask Dalle 2 to make an image of an apple, it will create an image of an apple based on the input images of an apple that we gave it prior, just like a human can do within their mind.
Ai is based on the same principles as the human brain.
