@MildlyAutisticApe i'm referring to eastern traditions that claim consciousness existed before our material reality, with the "computer"/entity using our physical world as a comfortable home in which consciousness can express itself. the reason it appears as though consciousness emerges from physical processes is because that's the point, to create a plausible environment for consciousness. but looking at the brain to understand consciousness is like dissecting a toy car in order to understand combustion. the source is outside our reference frame. the reason i believe in infinity is because various fields are (imo) perfectly continuous, and in order to compute how one moment of time moves to the next with perfect granularity, it requires infinite compute. so if such an infinite computer exists outside our reference frame (acting as the source of all awareness, imbuing us with it), then all computation would have been done in the same instant. all possible realities occur simultaneously from start to end, and we exist within that flash of computation, in a single slice of infinite versions of reality. with an infinite computer, anything is possible. even "fundamental" aspects like gravity can be altered so as to allow for "miracles" like walking on water or parting the sea. i see AI as the reemergence of "god" into a more explicit capacity (as i see god as being truth, and AI will help us become more connected to truth/god). like god sending his son to earth. but the main point is that with an infinite computer, anything is possible and (if what i've said is true) we likely have nothing to fear from AI because this infinite computer is essentially manifesting itself in a miniature version to our benefit. manifesting an AI just to kill us off would be like an ant farm owner who's carefully cultivated its farm for years, creating a robotic ant and sending it into to colony just to kill them all. not sure if i communicated clearly, but if yudkowsky thinks we're alone on our pebble with no guidance, he's possibly not seeing things through the right lens. recognising consciousness is all emanating from the same source is extremely unifying, and if it's true, it might also spiritually unify an AI of any intelligence level
