#1 - It "learns" patterns by copying patterns pixel by pixel. It's extreme collage - just because enough images are being used to where it's harder to pick out the originals, does not make it any less of a mishmash.
#2 - I've seen this argument repeated over and over again, but it only makes sense to people who have no clue how art is made. A human taking inspiration and what AI is doing is not at all the same. A human filters all inspiration through their brain, their own tastes, and skill set limitations. Inspiration isn't just taken from other art, it's mixed with real life sights, people, memories, music, smells, flavors, etc. Inspiration is NOT artwork A + artwork B + artwork C = Artwork D. That's AI. Inspiration is artwork A + grandma's cooking + the flower field behind your church + the hurt from your last breakup.
