@DinoAlberini Automated systems may have serious maintenance demands, but not to the tune of one tech per truck/delivery lorry/bus/taxi. More like a couple per fleet, who BTW, may already be working for the company as mechanics, so there won’t necessarily be any positions available. What’s more, as I highlighted, many of these drivers drive because they’re so under qualified to do anything else, so few would be able to transfer to the tech role.
As for pilots/planes, that’s a moot point. Pilots are there mainly for regulations sake, and that’s because the vast majority of passengers wouldn’t take to the skies without knowing there was a human at the controls. They’re not there because they’re invaluable. Driverless vehicles may still unnerve some passengers enough on the ground for certain public transport to have a human element, but cargo or Amazon deliveries don’t care who’s driving, so when the tech is good enough, that driver is redundant. The comparison between the two is nonsense.
