@SineEyed You're just flat out objectively wrong. That is not the criteria the copyright office applied. You're lifting language from their description of why AI-generated content doesn't qualify as authored (produced mechanically) and trying to set it as a requirement of authorship.
It is objectively the case that if you record your dreams, that is copyrighted. The dream itself obviously can't be, but simply because it's not a tangible work, but your putting it to record would produce a tangible work and itself be a creative process. Now, if we could pop a hat on and directly record dreams, whether that would be copyrighted is another matter. Whether a dream constitutes a product of human genius or intellect is... at least arguable? I couldn't find anything useful on this, but I'm sure it's come up before... surrealist automatism is a thing and there are court rulings on whether spiritually-produced text is copyrightable after all, lol.
