He has strongly hinted multiple times in that interview that his concern is not sentience and he's using that as a way to gain media attention for the real issues: Emily: "...you raising this issue of sentience and personhood iS a distraction from these real concerns" Blake: "I share the same worry, to be honest, I think that (sentience) is a thing to think about, but it is NOWHERE NEAR as important to think about as how does this omnipresent AI that is trained on a very limited data set colour how we interact with each other around the world..."
