@Vlperine the story shouldn’t be framed as Tesla is being “cheap” or doesn’t care when that isn’t proven. There may be technical reasons, which I mentioned, in which Lidar introduces more dangers. So bring on third party engineers to explain. It is possible that lidar freaks out every time a plastic bag, or tire debris occludes the lidar. Do I think that’s the case? Unclear, would be good to hear from 2-3 experts. Both NHTSA and Tesla have strong potential cases, more regulation prevents deaths vs. too much regulation prevents life saving tech. Seems like more oversight might be necessary, but do you really think NHTSA understands neural nets, AI and LiDAR as well as a panel of third party experts, I’m skeptical.
