I don’t really care about growth or outcompeting China, but they are right in that banning of regulating ai development doesn’t actually accomplish much. You really just cede control over to other nations that don’t have any regulations. So imo regulating ai development should be done with a scalpel and not a hammer. I’d much rather have a democratic country with at least some transparency on the forefront of ai development as opposed to a nation that has none.
