I'd argue they aren't consistently acting like it's anything. Some of them think it's SkyNet, while others think it's Napster.. lol None of them are actually talking about real policies to adapt for the implications of this technology.. They're just focused on "how can we control the companies, or how can we let people sue companies". Neither of those are the right questions.
AI tech is only going to keep advancing. The real question is, how do we change our economy, to adapt so people can still live decent lives, when they can no longer compete for a livable income, against AI more intelligent than them.
