@Rikonardo I think that’s definitely true, art we make is just a mashup of other things. However, we as humans can understand the meaning of those things. A specific example I can think of is with AI generated historical art. The AI sees images and mashes them together (admittedly well) to make a woman. However, the piece it is replicating is a married woman from the 16th century (if memory serves), and the AI depicts her with her hair down. This is not accurate, as married women in this time period wear their hair up and covered (again, if memory serves). AI doesn’t understand the images it produces, and so I think until we create an actually sentient AI we can’t call AI generated images “art.” And that’s minus all of the ethical complaints, but you didn’t mention that so I won’t either.
