I learned long ago that what gets an artist's work into the art history books is doing something completely unique, never before seen. There are many, many amazing artists that are not well-known because they are not doing anything particularly unique, stylistically, even though they are extremely talented and skilled and always originally their own artist. While they may not have created a whole new genre, they are still unique within a recognized one. It's one thing for an artist to inspire other artists and for them to take certain elements of a work they admire to heart in order to create something that "borrows" - yet becomes particularly their own. And it's quite another for AI to simply mine your work without your permission, alter it digitally, massively profit companies, but give you no credit nor remuneration. That's what you call a blatant "rip-off," and it's both illegal and immoral. I hope the cases proliferate, because this shouldn't - mustn't - go unchallenged. It simply isn't JUST.
