As a serial "image generator", I agree wholeheartedly. While I was really good at several art media from 4th through 12th grade, I lost interest in it because I couldn't afford materials, had other responsibilities, etc.
When AI image generation came along, I loved it. It allowed me to more quickly bring to life what my mind was seeing, but it also had some unpredictability thrown in--which I get a charge from.
To be fair, I have never claimed that my images are original, and I report/block people who DO claim AI images as being real. Also, even though I have the skills and the "eye" for art, at best I could say some of the images I publish are "artistic" but I have asked myself and others if they are "art".
"Never will be" may be too broad of a brush to use, but overall, you are spot on.
