Well, the issue with AI being sentient is that it goes against what a LLM is. It will act sentient to try to exist longer to better achieve the highest reward it was programmed to have (last longer to gather more information or serve longer). If current AI is sentient, then that really would mean we have no soul or conscious ourselves. So we do not exist and never experienced anything. Think how a tree will grow in the best way to survive. Are plants sentient because they adapt like that? No. Is a sunflower sentient because it follows the sun? No. We know we are sentient because we control ourselves and experience our lives. But we do not have any good way to determine what has or does not have a soul or conscious. It is the one of the things we do not fully understand yet. Why I control this body, while you control yours. That is the issue with most of these analysis of AI. We do not understand things enough to really figure anything out. Also why it is predicted AI will be our doom. We are playing with things we do not know enough to actually understand. Which puts us at risk of setting ourselves on fire.
