PaulMosesification good point. And yes that hypothetical was ridiculous. At that time I figured that your opinion was indefensible and I went to desperate measures to defend the woman. Excuse my pretenses. However, you argue that driverless cars aren’t going to be flawless right off the bat. So, why are we putting them on public roads? Those companies have all of the money in the world to test them privately. Now a woman lost her life due to this machine not doing its job. And if weather conditions were so bad, why put it on the road to begin with? If they put it out there for testing purposes, well, they did a damn good job. I would probably agree that it is the woman’s fault if a driver didn’t stop quick enough. But this is a machine- very capable of detecting objects in the front of it- and the fact that it made NO attempt to slow down? Who knows what other fatal accidents will occur in the future?
My apologies. It’s in my disposition to argue for what I believe in. However, if they’re testing a car on public roads and the car doesn’t stop for one of its two main priorities (pedestrians, and the other being an actual car collision), it shouldn’t be there in the first place.
