Seeing the LessWrong crowd trotted out as if they're actual experts on the subject is deeply frustrating. None of their apocalyptic theorizing is grounded in empirical reality; it's a Jenga tower of convoluted pseudo-intellectual thought experiments and ultra-rationalistic game theory exercises masquerading as actual research. If you're familiar with Soares' resume, you'll know that he has NEVER worked in any field of AI research beyond his purely theoretical fart-huffing over at MIRI. Sorry to say, but thinking REALLY HARD about Asimov's three laws of robotics does not suddenly make you qualified to talk about a concrete and highly technical branch of computing. It's all the hysteric nonsense of Christian eschatology repackaged for a gaggle of secular, self-absorbed tech billionaires and their assorted flunkies.
