as an artist im not a super anti-AI image generation person. I see interesting creations generated from a program that I find interesting and amusing, sometimes a source of inspiration for my own art. It can have some kind of value and I'm not against that. However, it is not real art, just a machine imitation. I call it image generation rather than AI art because I don't believe a non-sapient thing can create art. Art is about intent, a program does not have intent because its not sentient. One can argue entering a prompt is where the sentience comes into it, but I don't see that in the actual creation of the image itself, so to me it doesn't count. And more than anything, taking and using others works without their permission is theft and it shouldn't be allowed, if AI image generation was created using images that were created for the program with permission then I'd have much less of a problem with it.
