In both cases they don't actually replace skill. Someone with no skill, no matter how much autotune they use, won't make a good piece of music, or they might make something alright but which will be infinitely more boring than anything someone actually skilled can make. Also, I think that your point of view makes you biased: I'm sure you don't see a lot of the criticism towards "elitist artists" because you're not one, but on the other hand as a musician you yourself were presumably the subject of a lot of criticism, so you noticed it a lot more. Also also, people may side with artists more because unlike autotune and electronic tools, which are just that, tools, AI is by itself attempting to imitate the art, and on top of that there's been a massive amount of backlash towards AI in general, so people are more prone to defend the ones whose positions are being threatened by it. So I think it's more complex than just people having "double standards", because why even would they take the side of artists but not musicians?
