@iispacedustii Is it? I wasn't around 100 years ago, but in the past 9, I have commissioned a lot of art. Some of those commissions have been as vague as "a mech with this Pride flag's colours", a prompt, if you will. I can recognize that even though that piece will only exist because of my input (me specifically asking this person at a given time for this particular thing, and providing the funding), that the art they make is indeed theirs, that they are the artist in that exchange.
I might say it was a bit of an irrelevant question tho, since the greater issue with generative AI is not whether prompters are artists, but whether the technology is ethical, which at the moment it is not.
