Difference is we don't know when/if aliens will come, so it makes sense to be prepared, it can happen whenever. If you had any software development experience, you would understand we will not have real self aware AI any time soon. That's not a prediction, that's an assertion. The way our computer's chipsets currently work it is simply not possible to emulate the human brains function. Even if they continued to 100x in speed year after year, it still would never work, simply because the binary clock platform that we use as a basis for our computers cannot accurately represent how the neurons in the brain work. The minimum pre requirement would probably be to first figure out quantum computing, which considering we don't even understand quantum physics yet, probably isn't happening in our lifetime either.
