I don't know where to send you first to start unravelling your confusion. I read a lot of papers in AI and AI Safety, and sometimes I forget how much of a gap there is between the general public and the current evidence. Perhaps you can start by reflecting on what you think your view implies AI absolutely cannot do, and then test it to see if it can already do that? Come up with a few examples and try a few times. Maybe check out some of the benchmarks with held-out test sets and see if you think in your model, AI should be able to do the things it can now do.
If you want to learn more of the science behind AI and AI Safety, I suggest the AI Safety Info wiki. It's very helpful, and highly accurate to the state of the field.
