@j.r.r.tolkien8724 🤔 "Everyone" is practically some corporations. So it's not really everyone and it's certainly not you (I suppose) and me. In that sense is where I render the whole phenomenon as a "fever". It's mostly corporations that advertise heavily on the matter and the media do so as well.
About the human replacement: have you encountered katana swords that are made by a factory (meaning with no human touch during production) and being really appreciated by katana users? Indeed that's kinda difficult or specialised example but that's what I mean on "blacksmith" parallelism.
> [...] that it's no longer reasonable to have such assumptions [...] <- that's no reasonable assumption, not personally, but who's to tell what is and what is not?
> [...] I'd say we're no longer the only ones who can use tools, [...] <- CPUs are running human-designed functions for decades already. We made the CPU, we wrote the functions.
In an other sense, is like making a switch to turn on the lights, then you make the switch able to accept remote signals and turn it on/off, then you make an "AI" to "decide" if it's dark enough in the room, to turn on/off the lights. Yes, you no longer flip the switch. But! Would you reprogram this behaviour if you went out for vacations or leave this room for unknown amount of time?
Point here, is that AI is nothing more than functions that in the end, try to emulate neural networks. These are neither smart or intelligent, but just dumb programs written by clever people and used creatively.
This also apply to "smart phones, homes, appliances".
Now, if the creative way of a pharma company is to reject orders for sugar based beverages from your smart fridge because they are connected with your insurance company, it would be something to consider as not good outcome. But the pharma company, the insurance company and the fridge company are to blame here for the restriction in the example. The effort is to makes us believe that AI does make the decision, leaving the companies mentioned with "no real responsibility".
Sorry for the long reply. I hope it is clear, let me know.
