@-karma-2426 The main thing was at the end of the video. She demonstrates a perhaps a few hours of drawing in about 3 minutes, but then demonstrates AI for only like 3 seconds. AI art certainly can be like that, but no one would call that art. Think of it like this. You can ask an illustrator to draw you a person. They draw you a stick figure in 3 seconds and tells you it's done. That's essentially what is being demonstrated, but for AI art. So much more time can be spent re-iterating on a piece of work, even if it's an AI generated. And like, you can also manually go in and draw over the generated AI piece.
What is being confused here is that art is being simplified to mere illustrations, but the art extends beyond an illustration. Everything is art. Anyone who spends a lot of time doing something good is in fact performing an art. This is the misrepresentation of AI art.
Something that pisses me off is that people go on about something doesn't have a soul, it's bad because it wasn't made by a human, there was no inspiration; and but they fail to define what exactly all of that means. The argument that there's no soul is worthless if you cannot understand what a soul is and how it affects a piece of work.
The Dune screencap is also just, there's some truth in what she's saying, but a /well/ trained AI will not have such strict adherence to it's source material. It's like if you told someone to draw X and only X for 100 times over and over again and punished them if they drew anything else. If you told them to draw X, they will draw it exactly like you originally told them to. This is a badly trained AI. But again, there's a failure to define what inspiration is. My current understanding of inspiration is to take pieces from a historical mental model and hash it together in some mashup work. This is literally what AI does. There is no such thing as an original work, it's a rehash of all historical memories whether conscious or not.
As for the issue with the buttons, yes, that is an issue. However, if you train a model specifically for something, it will do a pretty good job at doing it correctly with what you trained on. AI art tends to struggle with patterns and fine details, that's something that's still trying to be figured out.
Art is about the process, not the finished product. I think this is what annoys me the most right now about the AI vs art landscape. Art is being about to talk with a human being and discuss about the design and processing of a piece. This is what AI can't replicate (yet), and it's what makes artists valuable more than ever right now.
