That argument only holds when a technology still needs uniquely human skills, such as creativity, judgment, or emotional intelligence, to stay relevant. But AI isn’t just another productivity tool; it’s a system that can, in principle, replicate and surpass every mental function humans use for work.
Jobs like “SAP consultant” or “game designer” emerged because computers still needed humans to operate and imagine within their limits. AI, however, is different; it directly targets the act of thinking itself.
So yes, new jobs may arise, but only for a short time. They exist as long as AI isn’t fully capable. Once it is, there’s no reason to think any role will remain safe. The idea that “we’ll just adapt” assumes there will always be a gap between what humans can do and what AI cannot, but that gap is exactly what AI is closing.
