@Krytern Artists are okay with other artists using their work for inspiration. It's a time honored tradition to study from other artists to improve your work. It's codified in copyright law that you can use other artist's work in non commercial ways, and you can use it commercially in a parody. No artists have ever tried to reform copyright law to prevent other artists from being inspired by other artists' work.
Artists have explicitly said they don't want their art being used in the training data set to train these ai models. Therefore the ai companies are engaged in theft. As an artist myself, I'm actually happy art is first to be affected by ai, contrary to predictions. We can set precedent for ways we can't imagine today of ai being used across our society tomorrow using our data in ways we did not give permission and brings harm to humanity.
