I don't think that the jobs that most people do are an actual measurement of their true intelligence or human potential. So many people work menial jobs because they have to pay bills, not because they have been matched with their true purpose in life. Most jobs are designed to have easy to follow, standardized processes, with a heavy emphasis on producing repeatable results. This is certainly true in manufacturing, but also true in many office jobs, like healthcare and legal. Most people clock in, turn their brain off for 8 hours so that they can get through the drudgery, and then at the end of the day they go home and enjoy their lives and do actual creative things (if they have the mental energy).
All this talk about AI taking away the vast majority of white collar jobs reminds me of David Graeber's famous essay from 2013 - Bullshit Jobs, in which he theorized that most jobs have no real impact on the world and that many people could just not show up for work and nothing consequential would happen. Let AI have that.
