And by what criteria do you make the claim of "being ahead" in open-source AI? Especially given the fact that benchmarks have been questioned, to put it mildly, when it comes to the AI field as a whole. And, it seems DeepSeek was much overhyped, with all sorts of issues (like security).
As for data going back to the PRC, that still seems to happen in various sectors, regardless of practices around data residency and architectural choices.
